Portable Cords come in a wide variety of constructions that provide different specifications. You can tell what different portable cords offer by the letters in their name. SJEOOW cords are junior service power cords that have an oil-resistant jacket and insulation. The jacket is made from thermoplastic elastomer, a medium-duty material that is ideal for use in cold temperatures.
SJEOOW cables are multi-conductor portable cords often used in wiring for industrial machinery, large appliances, heavy-duty tools, motors, mining equipment, and temporary electrical and lighting power for construction sites. The oil-resistant elastomer jackets in these cables make them suitable for outdoor use. Most SJEOOW power cables feature a bare copper conductor and TPE insulation. As a junior service power cord, this type of portable cord has a voltage rating of 300V and a temperature range of -50°C to +105°C. It also has resistance to water, oils, solvents, weather, abrasion and is suitable for submersion in water.
Our Custom SJEOOW Cable Solution
One Allied Wire and Cable customer that made aerospace equipment contacted us for help designing a custom SJEOOW cable. This portable cord needed minor changes to meet their exact requirements. Since this customer manufactured equipment for aircraft, their custom cable needed many industry approvals that SJEOOW power cables don't usually require.
This cable needed a braided shield for extra protection. The color code for the conductors also needed to change. Typically, a three-conductor SJEOOW portable cord has conductors that are black, white, and green. For this customer, the conductors needed to be the European standard, which is light blue, brown, and green with a yellow stripe. The change in color code and addition of the braided shield made this cable a completely custom design.
