PTFE: Prices Not Sticking
There's no denying that PTFE cable prices keep increasing. Ever since Asahi Glass closed its PTFE
production facility (See November 2007 newsletter), customers have seen a rise in PTFE prices. With no
slow down in sight, the cost of PTFE cables continues to rise.
Although several factors contribute to the escalating cost of the cable, silver has been one major
contributing factor. Silver prices on the Comex have been steadily going up. The metal's price
affects PTFE cable because most PTFE cable is extruded over a silver conductor. The conductor is coated
due to the heat application of the cable.
Because of soaring prices across various markets, including the silver market, the expense of PTFE cable
may continue to climb. Allied Wire will keep customers posted with any changes and updates.
