Other than the price of copper, RoHS Compliance is today's hottest issue in the wire and cable industry.
Allied Wire and Cable is pleased to announce it is doing its part in helping its customers achieve RoHS Compliance.
Over 90% of all our products currently meet RoHS standards, and our sales team can assist you with all your RoHS
questions and needs.
What is RoHS Compliance? RoHS refers to the Restriction of Hazardous Substances. The European Union (EU)
instituted RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC banned six substances from being used in the manufacturing process.
The goal of this directive is to protect the environment and reduce exposure related health risks.
This Directive affects both manufacturers and distributors of electrical and electronic equipment. RoHS requires
that Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Hexacalent Chromium, Polybrominated Biphenysis, and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers
no longer be used in manufacturing, as their use in production is dangerous human health, as is the eventual
disposal of these products can be damaging to the environment.
Since Allied Wire produces and distributes "beginning of life" materials for electrical and electronic products,
our compliance with the RoHS directive fulfills our obligations to the EU "end of life" directives:
- Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) EU Directive 2002/96/EC - This directive requires that the
companies manufacturing electrical and electronic equipment take responsibility for the waste problem. These
companies are compelled to collect waste and it in an ecological-friendly manner, either by ecological disposal
or by refurbishment of the collected waste.
- End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) EU Directive 2000/53/EU - This directive requires that manufacturers limit the use of
certain hazardous substances in the production of new vehicles and automotive components. They are also to
promote the recyclability of their vehicles.
Allied Wire and Cable's team of experienced sales representatives is here to assist you with all your RoHS needs.
We can provide you with any certification you may need. Call your representative today and find out how we can
help you achieve RoHS Compliance.
