Compound Material Increases
Several variables are contributing to the price increases implemented by numerous wire and cable
manufacturers. The manufacturers themselves are experiencing cost increases that affect the
production inputs and delivery costs of wire and cable products. There have been sizeable raw
material price escalations on drums, reels, tinned copper and transportation. Another cost for
which manufacturers are accounting is the sharply increased price of compound materials.
Compound material prices have risen significantly in part due to petroleum prices. Insulating compounds,
including PVC and polyethylene, currently cost notably more than they did in 2007. Both PVC and
polyethylene are commonly employed in wire and cable insulation materials. Because of the compounds'
cost, the production cost of wire and cable containing any insulating compound has risen.
The price of compound material may continue to rise due to variable markets. Allied Wire will keep
customers posted.
AWC Welcomes New Sales Rep in PA
AWC added a new sales representative, Emily Johnson, to its PA location.
Emily Johnson, originally of Greenville, PA, carries a background of inside sales positions. Johnson
most recently worked at Preferred Sales, Inc., a manufacturer's rep for the plumbing industry, where she
served as a sales liaison between the manufacturers and wholesalers.
"I am very excited to be with AWC and to start building lasting relationships with customers," said Johnson.
"I cannot wait to be on the phone all day long meeting new people and fostering relationships."
