FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Collegeville, PA, May, 2014 – Allied Wire & Cable, a family owned and operated distributor and specialty manufacturer of wire and cable, was recognized for its contributions to the expansion of U.S. exports in a ceremony in Washington, D.C. earlier this month. Allied Wire & Cable received the President's "E" Award for Exports, one of the highest honors available to U.S. companies involved in international trade.
On May 28, 2014, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker presented Allied Wire & Cable with the President’s “E” Award for Exports at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. The “E” Awards are the highest recognition any U.S. entity may receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports.
“Allied Wire & Cable has demonstrated a sustained commitment to export expansion. The ‘E’ Awards Committee was very impressed with Allied Wire & Cable’s creation of an interdepartmental committee to enhance exports. The company’s participation in international trade fairs and missions was also particularly impressive. Allied Wire & Cable’s achievements have undoubtedly contributed to national export expansion efforts that support the U.S. economy and create American jobs,” said Secretary Pritzker in her congratulatory letter to the company announcing its selection as an award recipient.
Allied Wire & Cable, headquartered in Collegeville, PA, is a specialty manufacturer and distributor of electrical wire and cable. The company was founded in 1988 by brothers, Tim, Dan, and Mike Flynn, along with family friend, Chris Burke, in the Flynn family basement in Wayne, PA where they did everything themselves, including re-spooling wire by hand. These days, Allied is one of the largest family owned and operated wire and cable distributors in the United States with warehouses and sales offices in eight states and loyal customers around the world.
Allied has a long history of excellence in exporting and was recognized as one of Pennsylvania’s “Faces of Trade” by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 2009. In recent years, Allied representatives have attended trade missions to Turkey, Mexico, Canada, and South Africa.
“The President’s “E” Award winners are fantastic American businesses and organizations that have played a crucial role in strengthening and growing our economy through increased U.S. exports,” said Secretary Pritzker. “By selling Made-in-America goods and services internationally, U.S. business can grow faster, hire more employees, pay higher wages, and help spread American ideas, innovation and values. Congratulations to Allied Wire & Cable for its export achievement, which helps the local community, Pennsylvania, and the nation remain competitive in the global marketplace.”
President Kennedy revived the World War II “E” symbol of excellence to honor and provide recognition to America's exporters. The “E” Award Program was established by Executive Order 10978 on December 5, 1961. Four years of successive export growth and an applicant’s demonstration of an innovative international marketing plan that led to the increase in exports is a significant factor in making the award.
U.S. companies are nominated for the “E” Award for Exports through the Department of Commerce’s U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service office network, located within the Department’s International Trade Administration, which has offices in 108 U.S. cities and more than 70 countries to help U.S. exporters.
Allied Wire was one of 66 U.S. companies presented with the President’s “E” Award this year.
Tim Flynn, President and CEO of Allied Wire accepted the award at the May 28th ceremony in D.C. When asked what the award meant to him, Flynn said, “It is amazing to see how our company has grown from its start in my family basement in the Philadelphia suburbs, to now, when we’re going to Washington to receive Presidential recognition for doing business around the world, and doing it well. It makes us extremely proud, not only as business owners, but also as Americans, to know that we are able to help grow the economy and provide more job opportunities in the US by increasing exports.”
