Throughout the year we have seen the prices of raw materials increase dramatically,
including PTFE products. The price of PTFE has risen due to high
demand and low availability. Copper prices have also reached record highs,
most recently reaching $4.11 on October 16th on the Camden Index, and Silver
prices have nearly doubled in the past year as well. Major wire and cable
manufacturers have been reporting PTFE shortages for the past few months.
Due in part to limited supply allocations from their suppliers as well as
an increase in demand from consumers, price and lead times on PTFE continue
to increase. This trend is expected to last through at least the first
quarter of 2011.
Allied is doing all we can to help lessen the impact on our customers.

PTFE, short for PolyTetraFluoroEthylene,
is an extremely useful material, for it has several attributes that help
it to survive harsh environments and working conditions. Most people know
of PTFE for it's uses in non-stick cookware and other household uses, but
those same specifications also make it ideal for wire and cable jackets
and insulation. It posesses excellent dielectric properties, which means
