Your Survival Guide to the Fluctuating Price of Copper

Your Survival Guide to the Fluctuating Price of Copper

Since Fall of 2016 copper prices have been on the rise, so you may be wondering why you’re seeing these copper increases lately. In the past few months, the price of copper has increased about 21%. Though there are many reasons for a rise in copper pricing, the most recent is due to the strike at the world’s largest copper mine in Chile. These high prices are of immediate concern because the rise and fall of copper directly affects the price of wire and cable.

Here are some tips to weathering the fluctuating copper prices:
- Consider switching from a brand name to generic equals
- Place blanket purchase orders to lock in current copper prices
- Check out our Bargain Bin for deep discounts on odd lengths

Charity on the Homefront: Update and Results!

The results are in! Thanks to your efforts we were able to raise money and awareness for our friend and coworker, Rick Prince, and donate to the American Cancer Society. Rick was diagnosed with testicular cancer and is currently still battling this disease.

At Allied we pride ourselves with being extremely family oriented and those ideals reflect how we feel about our employees. Naturally, when one of our own was in need, we decided something had to be done. We debuted two new Allied Wire & Cable special edition T-Shirts in honor of Rick and our fight to help him. $1600 was raised for Rick internally and externally through our generous customers and vendors. Allied decided to give all the profits of the fundraiser to rick and made an additional donation to the American Cancer Society of $1000 in honor of Rick.

We again want to thank everyone that made a donation, bought a shirt, or sent well wishes to Rick. From all of us here at Allied Wire & Cable, we wish Rick a speedy recovery!

March Madness

Get your Doctor’s notes ready to get out of work because March Madness is almost here!

Before you know it, you’ll be glued to your TVs with what you’ll believe is the perfect bracket in hand. However, as you’ll remember from years past, those visions of having the perfect bracket will shortly be shot down after those select few Cinderella teams emerge, taking down some of the tournament’s favorites. All it takes is one big upset to send your bracket for a whirl, your final 4 for a loop, and your chance at the big bucks down the drain.

For you college basketball gurus who spend months statistically decoding brackets from the past and tuning into what analysts have to say about how to most successfully make your picks, the unpredictability of the most talked about college basketball tournament probably drives you mad. For the average Joe who tunes into a game here and there and makes some last minute picks — the fact that you’ve got about just as good a shot as the people who spent months preparing is pretty remarkable. Luck is a major factor and hopefully it’s on your side.

So whether you’re a college basketball fanatic, or just someone who wants to test their luck at winning some major prizes (last year’s winner received a $500 gift card), Allied’s Bracket Challenge is the contest for you! Keep an eye out in your inbox for details to come in the next few weeks, and get your dancing shoes ready. It’ll be time to strap them on in no time.

2017 March Madness Schedule

March 16-17: First Round
March 18-19: Second Round
March 23-24: Sweet Sixteen
March 25-26: Elite Eight

Straight from the Drawing Board: A Case Study about Custom Nuclear Cable

With their spec in hand, a customer of Allied’s in the nuclear industry reached out for help with a custom nuclear cable. The customer was looking for a cable they previously purchased, but wanted to upgrade the outer layer. Though the customer was hoping for a stock item that would perform the same, it was clear that a custom cable would better fit their needs. Read more about this month’s Custom Cable Case Study here.

Joke of the Month

A Dubliner proposes to his girlfriend on Saint Patrick's Day and gives her a ring with a synthetic diamond.

"You cheap bum!" she yells. "This isn't even real."

"I know," he says. "But in honor of Saint Patrick, I thought I'd buy you a sham-rock."
