Charity Week Raises More than $18,500 for Families & Animals in Need

2013 Charity Week

Thank you for making Allied’s 8th Annual Charity Week the most successful one yet! From December 16 – 20, 2013, a percentage of all sales went to our Charity Week donation, benefiting the Humane Society and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. With the help of our loyal customers, we were able to raise $18,629.65 for families and animals in need!

The Humane Society works for the well-being of domestic animals and wildlife by operating shelters and rehabilitation centers, offering training and educational services, advocating for animal rights, and much more. Allied has a history of supporting animal welfare organizations by including them in past Charity Weeks and we’re proud to continue our support in an even bigger way this year.

Make-A-Wish also has a special place in the heart of the Allied family. It has been the main beneficiary of many past Charity Weeks, as well as the recipient of donations raised through additional special events and fundraisers, including our special Christmas in July Charity Week just a few months ago. With more than $82,000 in donations since 2000, Allied has been able to support many wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses, including shopping sprees, trips to Disney World, baseball camp, and Phillies Spring Training, the installation of a therapy pool, and more.

Charity Week has become one of Allied’s favorite traditions, giving us the opportunity to work with our customers to make a significant difference in the community. According to Allied President and co-owner, Tim Flynn, “There is no greater joy than helping those that are less fortunate. The Allied family is proud to be part of raising close to $20,000 to help assist two great causes. A big thank you also goes out to our amazing customer base. Without them none of this would have been possible.”

Allied Wire – Cable that is Out of this World

Wire Out of This World

Allied Wire has ended up in some pretty interesting places…movie sets, a Beyoncé concert, electric cars, huge Navy vessels…heck, it has literally been “out of this world” as part of the Mars Rover. This month, we’ll see how Allied Wire has even helped save lives!

Hostage negotiations. We’re used to designing specialty cables for companies that can’t afford performance problems or downtime in their applications – but this is one of the few cases where downtime or other difficulties could actually mean the difference between life and death.

Allied Wire produces custom cables for crisis negotiation phone systems. Law enforcement officers from the police force and FBI use these portable phone systems to speak with people on the inside of hostage situations, no matter where they are.

To get the phone line inside, the cable must be able to go through windows, like those in a bank or home, without being crushed or otherwise damaged. These cables must also be flexible and relatively small and light to work as part of the portable all-in-one system; the whole thing is designed to fit in a case that can be carried by a single officer. Because the application requires a unique combination of characteristics and needs to withstand challenges beyond the scope of standard cabling options, custom cable from Allied is the perfect solution.

Harry and Martha drank their coffee as they listened to the morning weather report.

"There will be three to five inches of snow today. You must park your cars on the odd-numbered side of the street."

Harry got up from his coffee to move the car.

Two days later, they sat down with their cup of coffee and listened to the weather forecast.

"There will be two to four inches of snow today. You must park your cars on the even-numbered side of the street."

Harry got up from his coffee to move the car.

Three days later, they tuned in to the weather report.

"There will be six to eight inches of snow today. You must park your cars on the..." The power went off.

He said to Martha, "What am I going to do now?"

Martha said, "Just leave the car in the garage."
