Back to School with AWC

Back to School with AWC's 25th Anniversary

This month, our 25th anniversary celebrations turned to “back to school.” We hope your families are back in the school year groove, and that our new 25th anniversary video was able to put a smile on your face. This month, family played a big role, and we even got a laugh from our sitcom teaser for “Allied in the Family.”

Back to school is a big season for children and families, but it’s also a great time to kick your wire and cable education into high gear.

At Allied, we take customer service to heart and believe that part of that means educating our customers – making sure you have all of the info you need to make your job easier. Of course, you can always call or email for personal service, but you also have access to a number of online resources to answer all of your wire and cable questions any time of day, including:

  • Videos – Watch Cable Basics, Product Spotlights, and our Heat Shrink Tubing How-To.
  • FAQs – Find answers to frequently asked questions about all types of products.
  • Informational Articles & Engineering Resources – Learn all about different cable components, available materials and their characteristics, cable ratings, and more.
  • Allied Encyclopedia – Get your wire and cable basics down in this quick, easy-to-read blog series.

Once you brush up on your wire and cable facts, make sure you answer our final “Back to School One-Question Quizzes” to earn extra entries in our 25th anniversary prize raffles. (But don’t worry if you haven’t memorized all there is to know about wire and cable…cheating is allowed on these quizzes. You’ll get a big hint for the answer to every question.)

Go answer the current One-Question Quiz, and make sure you watch your inbox for updates on the new video and challenge coming in October.

Allied Donates $250,000 to Area Schools and Student Scholarships

Pope John Paul II Students

Back to school can be an exciting time for families, but it can also be a very stressful time for families struggling financially. Allied believes that all children deserve a quality education, and that’s why the Allied family has made a $250,000 donation to Business Leadership Organized for Catholic Schools (BLOCS) to help provide more than one hundred scholarships to Philadelphia-area students in need.

For students at Pope John Paul II High School, tuition and fees for activities such as afterschool sports amount to $7,000 – $10,000 per year. Thanks to the work of BLOCS and Allied’s donation, many students from Pope John Paul II were awarded $150,000 worth of scholarships, ranging from $1,500 to $5,000 each to help pay for their education.

The remaining $100,000 of Allied’s donation went to students at other area schools including Presentation BVM, Holy Rosary Regional, and St. Francis of Assisi, and to supporting other BLOCS initiatives.

In addition to raising millions of dollars every year for student scholarships, BLOCS provides endowments to urban schools along with best practices advising. The organization, started by area business leaders in 1988, works throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to provide much needed support to both the Catholic school system and students who would otherwise be unable to afford a private education.

Learn more about BLOCS and how Allied’s donation went to work in the community in our full press release.

Joke of the Month!

A teacher is walking through the halls of the middle school where she works when she sees one of the new substitute teachers standing outside his classroom with his forehead against a locker.

She hears him mutter, “How did you get yourself into this?”

Knowing he is assigned to a difficult class, she tries to offer moral support.

“Are you okay?” she asks. “Can I help?”

He lifts his head and replies, “I’ll be fine as soon as I can get this kid out of his locker.”
