TXL Wire vs GXL Wire

In our This vs. That series, we're comparing (and contrasting) two seemingly similar products. A lot of products seem the same at first glance but can greatly affect the outcome of your next application. Today, we're taking a closer look at TXL and GXL Automotive Primary wires. These Automotive Primary wires are used and designed for a variety of different automotive environments. Both wires meet SAE J-1128, Ford M1L-123A, and Chrysler MS-8900 standards and have a 125°C temperature rating.

What is TXL Primary Wire?

TXL Wire is an extra-thin wall single-conductor automotive primary wire with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation. It is used primarily in automotive applications where small diameter and minimal weight are desirable. TXL automotive wire has a temperature rating of -51°C to +125°C, making it ideal for automotive applications that require reliability in both high heat and extreme cold. It also has a voltage rating of 50V. Due to its high durability, this primary wire is optimal for use in automotive applications requiring a lightweight wire of small diameter.

What is GXL Automotive Primary Wire?

GXL wire is a thin wall, single-conductor automotive primary wire. It also features cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation and has a voltage rating of 50V. It also operates best in a temperature range of -51°C to +125°C. It is used primarily in engine compartments where high heat resistance is required. It can also operate at very low temperatures and is designed in accordance with SAE.

What is the difference between GXL and TXL wire?

The major differences between TXL and GXL Primary wires are the applications, wall thickness, and weight. TXL wire's extra-thin wall makes it smaller and more lightweight than GXL. GXL, however, is used primarily where high heat resistance is required. There is a lot of overlap between all three Automotive Primary wires. Both TXL and GXL have a bare copper conductor, XLPE insulation, and the same temperature rating. They are also both rated to SAE, Ford M1L-123A, and Chrysler MS-8900 standards.
