What is Spiral Wrap?

Spiral wrap is a flexible, abrasion-resistant tubing designed to bundle and protect multiple wires or cables. Its spiral design allows for easy installation and removal, making it ideal for dynamic environments where cables require frequent access or re-routing.

Applications

  • Industrial automation and robotics
  • Panel building and control systems
  • Telecommunications and data centers
  • Automotive and aerospace harnessing
  • General wire and cable management

Spiral Wrap for Panel Builders and Wire Management

Panel builders, system integrators, OEMs, machine builders, electrical contractors, and industrial maintenance teams use spiral wrap to bundle, route, organize, and protect wire and cable in control panels, machinery, automation systems, equipment wiring, and wire harnesses. For UL 508A panel-related work, spiral wrap can help protect wires from abrasion while keeping cable bundles cleaner, easier to manage, and easier to modify during assembly, troubleshooting, service, or future equipment changes.

Spiral wrap is commonly selected based on bundle diameter, material, flexibility, abrasion resistance, temperature rating, chemical resistance, flame rating, color, and compliance requirements. Polyethylene spiral wrap is often used for general-purpose bundling where flexibility and chemical resistance are important. PTFE spiral wrap may be selected for high-temperature or harsh chemical environments. Nylon spiral wrap can provide enhanced abrasion resistance, while metal-detectable spiral wrap may be useful in food, beverage, packaging, or processing environments where detectability matters.

From a sourcing standpoint, spiral wrap is often purchased alongside SIS wire, MTW wire, VFD cable, SOOW cord, DLO cable, identification products, heat shrink tubing, extruded tubing, wire duct, cable ties, terminals, lugs, and solder sleeves. Panel shops may need specific materials, bundle diameter ranges, colors, reel lengths, temperature ratings, flame ratings, UL/RoHS compliance, and documentation to match customer specifications, equipment requirements, or internal shop standards.

AWC supplies spiral wrap options including polyethylene wrap, PTFE wrap, nylon wrap, and metal-detectable spiral wrap to support panel shop inventory, project-based builds, maintenance work, replacement needs, and repeat production applications. Contact Allied Wire & Cable for help with spiral wrap availability, material selection, sizing, documentation, or application guidance for control panels, automation systems, machinery, wire harnesses, and industrial equipment.

  • Polyethylene (PE): Offers excellent flexibility, chemical resistance, and is suitable for temperatures from -60°C to +88°C. Commonly used for general-purpose bundling.
  • PTFE: Provides superior high-temperature resistance (up to 260°C), low friction, and outstanding chemical inertness. Ideal for harsh or high-performance applications.
  • Nylon: Delivers enhanced abrasion resistance and moderate temperature performance.

Specifications

  • Bundle Diameter: 0.0625" to 10" (varies by product)
  • Temperature Range: -268°C to +260°C (material dependent)
  • Tensile Strength: Up to 12,000 psi
  • Flame Ratings: UL 94V-2, UL VW-1, self-extinguishing options available
  • Compliance: UL, RoHS, MIL specs, ASTM standards
