What Is UL 3173 Wire?

UL 3173 wire is a single conductor hook-up wire with stranded tinned copper conductors that offer improved corrosion and oxidation resistance over pure copper. The wire has cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation that provides excellent cut-through and impact resistance. UL 3173 wire has a maximum voltage rating of 600V and has excellent oil and gasoline resistance. Allied Wire and Cable stocks a range of sizes from 22 American wire gauge through to 10 AWG. Wire sizes from 14 AWG and upwards meet the National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements for switchboard wires and carry an "SIS" mark. Smaller sizes between 18 AWG and 16 AWG have "Suitable for Switchboard Use" printed markings. This UL-recognized wire complies with the Canadian Standards Association Type CL1251 requirement as well as the IEEE 130 Class B motor lead specifications.
