DLO - Diesel Locomotive Cable

DLO Cable – 2kV Diesel Locomotive Power Cable

DLO cable is a flexible, high-durability power cable rated for 2,000 volts and designed for diesel-electric locomotives, mining equipment, motor leads, shipyards, and generator systems.

It features a stranded tinned copper conductor and a thermoset insulation that resists impact, abrasion, oil, flame, sunlight, and chemicals, even in mobile or high-vibration installations.

Compared to welding cable, DLO offers improved insulation, longer service life, and higher voltage ratings. Available in sizes from 14 AWG to 1111 MCM, and stocked for immediate shipment.

What is DLO cable?

Diesel locomotive cable, also known as DLO cable, is a flexible portable power cable designed for use in diesel-electric locomotive engines. However, it is also suitable for use in heavy-duty power applications and motor leads where ruggedness and reliability are critical. Our DLO cable features a stranded tinned copper conductor, EPR insulation, and a CPE jacket. It has a maximum temperature rating of +90°C and a voltage rating of 2000V. Our DLO cable also has UL Type RHH/RHW-2, CSA Type RW90, and MSHA approval.

DLO Cable Specifications

DLO Cable Construction

  • Conductor: Stranded Tinned Copper, Fully Annealed per AAR-598 and ASTM B 33
  • Insulation: Premium-grade Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR)
  • Cable Jacket: Black Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE)

DLO Cable Ratings and Approvals:

  • ICEA S-95-685/NEMA WC 70
  • UL 44 TYPE RHH/RHW-2
  • (C)UL or CSA RW90
  • MSHA - Flame Retardant
  • RoHS Compliant
  • Only 1/0 DLO and larger are CT rated
  • Temperature rating: 90C
  • Voltage Rating: 2000V

DLO Cable Applications:

  • Diesel-electric locomotives
  • Power Supply Systems (UL Rated)
  • Oil and Gas drilling rigs
  • Motor Leads
  • Shipyards
  • May be used where flexible power leads must be installed in conduit or raceways
  • In accordance with Subject 6140 from Underwriter Laboratories, DLO is also able to be used for wind turbines that are powered at a maximum of 2000 volts.
