AWC eUpdate Newsletter December 2012

This Week is Charity Week

Charity Week 2012

Charity Week is going on now! For each and every order placed through this Friday, December 21st, Allied will donate a percentage of the sale to the charities we’ve chosen for our celebration of family: the American Cancer Society, the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The main Charity Week donation will go to the American Cancer Society in honor of everyone currently battling the disease, including one of our own Allied Wire & Cable family members, Nikki Lucas.

Nikki, the sales assistant for our Tampa, FL branch, was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in March, and has been “fighting like a girl” ever since. She chose the charity for its work in helping people will all types of cancer, promoting awareness and education, and providing a wide range of services to those undergoing treatment.

In the Allied tradition, we will make additional Charity Week donations, so that no member of the family is left out this holiday season. The Make-A-Wish foundation will receive a $1,000 donation to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, and the ASPCA will receive a $1,000 contribution for all they do to protect the four-legged members of our families.

Wisconsin Warehouse Expands

Wisconsin Warehouse Expansion

Our Wisconsin warehouse addition is complete, adding well over 10,000 square feet, and increasing our storage and production area by 40%. That’s a lot more space!

There are many benefits to the expansion. The most obvious advantage is having more room for stock, so we can get you the products you need, faster. We’ve also increased our number of work stations, improved process flow with a reconfigured production layout, and added two automatic re-spoolers for faster, more efficient service than ever.

We continue to make improvements such as growing our warehouse space, adding equipment to increase our production capabilities, and optimizing our work flow for faster, more efficient service in all of our locations across the country.

The Wisconsin warehouse expansion is our second this year, on the heels of our large, 19,500 square foot warehouse addition in Pennsylvania, which increased storage area by 30%. We also added two 16-carriage braiders, four automatic re-spoolers, and a new 10,000 lb rim drive to our PA facility.

A mini-striper and 3000 lb rim drive are the newest additions to our Las Vegas warehouse, in addition to an improved stocking package for increased volume on the West Coast.

Earlier this year, the Tampa, FL warehouse was added to the Allied Wire & Cable network with the acquisition of Progressive Wire & Cable. The location has a new stocking package, so more of the products you need are on-hand. It also features a new racking configuration to accommodate the increased product volume.

At Allied Wire & Cable, we’re constantly striving to provide our customers with the best products and service in the industry, and with all the improvements we’ve made to our warehouse and production facilities in 2012, we’re sure 2013 will get off to a great start!

Joke of the Month!

A family had twin boys whose only resemblance to each other was their looks. If one felt it was too hot, the other thought it was too cold. If one said the TV was too loud, the other claimed the volume needed to be turned up. Opposite in every way, one was an eternal optimist, the other a doom and gloom pessimist.

Just to see what would happen, on the twins' birthday their father loaded the pessimist's room with every imaginable toy and game. The optimist's room he loaded with horse manure.

That night the father passed by the pessimist's room and found him sitting amid his new gifts crying bitterly.

"Why are you crying?" the father asked.

"Because my friends will be jealous, I'll have to read all these instructions before I can do anything with this stuff, I'll constantly need batteries, and my toys will eventually get broken." answered the pessimist twin.

Passing the optimist twin's room, the father found him dancing for joy in the pile of manure. "What are you so happy about?" he asked.

To which his optimist twin replied, "There's got to be a pony in here somewhere!"
