AWC's 10th Annual Charity Week is Quickly Approaching!

AWC's 10th Annual Charity Week

The holiday season is back in full swing, and in addition to all of the gift wrapping, Christmas caroling, and secret-Santa exchanging traditions, here at Allied, we’re gearing up for a much-loved annual tradition of our own: Charity Week!

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Charity Week at AWC, which will take place from December 14th to December 18th, and to celebrate this milestone, we wanted to switch it up a bit! This year we wanted to put an emphasis on the idea of giving back to those in our very own backyards, across our branch locations. Several of our employees are dedicated to local charities, and the four charities that were selected this year each have an Allied employee who is closely connected and involved with each. In the next few weeks leading up to the start of Charity Week, we'll be introducing you to these employees and their stories through our blog.

The four local charities that have been selected are all different and benefit unique and worthy causes. At the end of the week, a percentage of the total sales will be split four ways, ensuring that each charity receives an equal amount of the proceeds.

The New Hampshire branch has selected Marguerite’s Place, which is a transitional housing and supportive services program for women and children. Marguerite’s Place provides housing, childcare, and life skills training services to women of crisis, as a way to help them get back on their feet.

The selected charity for the Wisconsin branch is the Shriner’s Hospital for Children- Twin Cities, a hospital that specializes in treating children with orthopedic conditions regardless of a family’s ability to finance the procedures. Shriner’s Hospital emphasizes the importance of high-quality medical care for people of all financial backgrounds.

Our Florida branch has selected a charity that we’ve worked with during previous charity weeks—The American Diabetes Association. The American Diabetes Association is an organization dedicated to finding a cure for diabetes, as well as helping to improve the quality of life for those living with the disease.

Finally, our Pennsylvania headquarters has decided to work with Pets for Vets, specifically its Pottstown, PA chapter, which is an organization whose goal is to pair returning war vets with a dog from a shelter whose personalities are a fit for one another. The idea behind the organization is that the dog will help the veteran heal emotional wounds, while in return, the dog will also have the opportunity to cared for by a loving owner—an approach that is reciprocal and impactful for both parties.

We’re excited about the approach we’re taking for our 10th annual Charity Week, and look forward to fostering new relationships with the three charities that we’re supporting for the first time, as well as continuing our relationship with the charity we’ve worked alongside in the past. During last year’s charity week, we raised a total of $18,145.74, and with your help, we’re hoping to make our 10th annual Charity Week the most successful yet! To help us reach this goal, place an order between December 14th through December 18th and help us support four amazing causes very close to our hearts! Click here to learn more.

Straight From the Drawing Board: A Case Study about Flat Flex Festoon Cable

Custom Cable Case Study

Jetting anywhere special this upcoming holiday season? As you board your plane, you’ll notice you don’t just hop from the terminal gate to the plane—you walk through a passenger boarding bridge.

These bridges require extreme flexibility to work as they do, because they are moveable connectors that attach from a gate to a plane. A customer of ours, specializing in airplane parts, was in need of a flexible cable for this application. Unfortunately no standard, off-the-shelf cable fit the bill. Fortunately for our customer, we were able to create just what they needed: a custom flat flex festoon cable. Read all about the custom cable here.

Video Spotlight

Thanksgiving video greeting from Allied

In true Thanksgiving fashion, in between the bites of turkey, sips of wine, and the first downs during the Thursday night games, most people will find themselves briefly reflecting on what they're most thankful for. Here at Allied, we've got a long list of everything we're thankful for too. In addition to our dedicated customers, who of course rank at the top of the list, there's something else that we're reel-y thankful for this year. Learn what that something is by tuning into our original AWC Thanksgiving video, and get into the spirit of the holidays!

Joke of the Month

A man lies sprawled across three seats in an upscale theater. When the usher comes by and notices this, he whispers to the man, "Sorry, sir, but you're only allowed one seat."
When the man doesn't budge, the usher becomes impatient. "Sir, if you don't get up from there, I'm going to have to call the manager."
Again, the man just stirs a bit, but doesn't respond, which infuriates the usher, who turns and marches briskly back up the aisle in search of his manager. In a few moments, both the usher and the manager return and stand over the man. Together, the two try repeatedly to convince him to move, but with no success. Finally, they summon the police.
The cop surveys the situation briefly and then asks, "All right, buddy, what's your name?"
"Sam," the man moans.
"Where ya from, Sam?"
With pain in his voice, Sam replies, "The balcony."
