SGX Cable Specifications

SGX Cable Specifications

SGX cable is one of the many Battery Cables available from Allied Wire and Cable. It is an automotive wire designed with cross-linked insulation, making it suitable for use in many automotive applications. It's important to know the ratings, construction, and approval of this high-temperature wire before purchasing to ensure it's the right cable for your next application.

Construction

SGX automotive battery cable features a stranded bare copper conductor and cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation. The stranded conductor provides some flexibility. The cross-linked insulation provides a high-temperature tolerance and resistance to abrasion, heat, and aging. Type SGX cable is most commonly available in gauge sizes ranging from 6 AWG to 4/0 AWG. SGX Battery Cable is most commonly available in red or black.

Ratings and Approvals

As an automotive battery cable, Type SGX wire has a voltage rating of 50 volts. Like STX cable, this automotive wire has a maximum temperature of +125°C. Many also meet Chrysler and SAE Specs.

Applications

SGX battery cable is designed for use in automotive starters and battery grounds. It is often used in place of SGT battery cable because of its higher heat resistance. While Battery Cable is often compared to Welding Cable, it should not be used in welding applications due to its lower voltage rating. If SGX automotive battery cable is used in place of welding cable, power loss is possible since it has less flexibility.
