Collegeville, PA, January, 2013 – Allied Wire & Cable is happy to announce the results of Charity Week 2012. The company raised $17,419 during its 7th Annual Charity Week, which ran December 17 to December 21, 2012. The majority of proceeds benefited the American Cancer Society, with additional donations going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

On January 23rd, American Cancer Society representatives, Jennifer Sabo and Laura Hilbert visited Allied Wire & Cable’s headquarters in Collegeville, PA to accept a check for $15,419.

Funds were raised as part of Allied’s 7th Annual Charity Week, which ran from December 17 to December 21, 2012. Charity Week has become a much-loved Allied Wire & Cable tradition, with a percentage of the week’s sales set aside for non-profit organizations.

“Raising money is critical, but we also really want to create awareness and give people an opportunity to fight back,” said Sabo, Director of Community Income Development at the East Central Division of the American Cancer Society. “We help people stay well through education and awareness; get well through programs where we provide transportation to treatment, and offer a 24-hour hotline for support and resources, in addition to a lot of other services; give communities a chance to fight back through events celebrating survivors and caregivers; and work to find cures, supporting millions of dollars of cancer research every year.”

This year, Charity Week hit particularly close to home for Allied Wire & Cable. Nikki Lucas, a sales assistant in Allied’s Tampa, FL branch, was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in March and has been undergoing treatment ever since. She chose the American Cancer Society as the main beneficiary of Charity Week 2012, on behalf of everyone bravely battling the disease.

According to Sabo, “One out of every two women diagnosed with breast cancer call the American Cancer Society for support, information, or our programs.”

Hilbert, an Income Development Representative for the East Central Division of the American Cancer Society, added, “But that also means 50% of breast cancer patients aren’t calling us, and we want them too. We want to make sure people know that our resources and services are here for them.”

Lucas shares the American Cancer Society’s desire to spread awareness and encourage practices that could lead to early detection. She said, “That’s what is getting me through – is helping others.” Allied Wire & Cable was happy to help her continue her mission through Charity Week.

Because this year’s Charity Week was dedicated to celebrating family, Allied wanted to be sure that no member of the family was forgotten. Smaller donations went to charities whose missions support our children and our pets. $1,000 was given to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. Another $1,000 donation went to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), an organization which rescues animals from abuse, fights to pass humane laws, and supports animal shelters across the US.
